SENIORS DANCE GROUP

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Senior Dance Group is to carry on the tradition of the Danube-Swabian and German people.

HISTORY

The German Senior Dance Group was established in November of 1988 by Jacob Bayer. In addition to carry on the traditions of the folk dance, the group sought to promote comradery and friendship within the Club. There was no limitation placed on the number of people joining the group. The usual membership averages around twelve couples. The group does give performances and demonstrations but does not participate in any dance competitions. The group visits other clubs within the country and invites other club to come to the Mansfield Liederkranz.

OFFICERS

Officers for the group are elected every year. The term of office is one year.

MEETINGS AND PRACTICES

The senior dance group has its business meetings quarterly. They last approximately 30 minutes and are open to the general membership.

The practices are held every Tuesday and last approximately 90 minutes. Couples joining the group are expected to attend the practices regularly. The practices are open to the general membership and to out of town club visitors.

Membership within the group is open to all club members. The only requirements include: At least one member of the couple joining be over 50 years of age and to have some dancing ability.
